All players are dealt 2 cards face down, followed by 5 cards face up. Players must make the best possible 5 card poker hand using the 5 community cards and their own face down hole cards. The best 5 card poker hand wins the hand and receives the pot.
It's primarily a skill game, although luck plays a huge role. In any single given hand, luck is the predominant factor in who will win or lose. However, poker players don't play a single hand. They play hand after hand after hand… and overall, skill dominates.
What does poker do to the brain? It strengthens your brain and shields your nerve cells. Playing poker can help to rewire your brain and help to create myelin for a longer run. When we perform any activity consistently, it leads to the creation of new neural pathways. The nerve fibers are surrounded by a myelin sheath.
The origin of the word "poker," as the title of a game, is not entirely clear. However, it is most likely an adaptation of the French poque, the name of a similar card game. Poque is almost certainly the game that poker evolved from. "Poker," as the name of the card game, was first documented in 1834.
It is always the best five cards that make a five card poker hand that determines the winner loser or split. Holdem is played with seven cards, and the two cards that are not part of the best five card hand count for absolutely nothing in determining if a pot is won lost or split.
